Watch On:
We’ve all seen it the ice baths, saunas, recovery boots, and endless supplements that fill athletes’ routines. But do you actually need any of that to move better, feel stronger, and stay injury-free?
This week on the Sole Wellness Podcast, I sat down with performance coach Linc Barnes, who trains everyone from sprinters and marathoners to future AFL players. And what we uncovered might just change the way you think about fitness.
Because while Linc works with elite athletes, the same principles that make them faster, stronger, and more resilient are the ones that will help you move better, age well, and stay pain-free no matter your fitness level.
Because while Linc coaches sprinters, marathoners and future AFL players, the truth is… The same foundations that make them stronger, faster, and more resilient are the ones that will keep you moving well AND with no pain as you age.
You’ll learn:
-
4:10 - Why your body doesn’t actually get fitter in the gym
-
5:20 - Why running won’t make you faster on its own…
-
8:25 - Is strength training safe for kids?
-
15:54 - The unexpected difference between everyday people and athletes in the gym
-
19:43 - The rule Linc uses to keep athletes free from injury
-
21:07 - Why bone stress injuries are so common in Australia right now
-
33:59 - The warning signs you’re pushing too hard in your training
-
37:22 - Which recovery tools are worth it
… and SO much more.
According to Linc, one of the biggest misconceptions about training is that progress happens in the gym.
In reality, your body adapts during recovery when you sleep, eat well, and manage stress. That’s why recovery isn’t just for athletes; it’s for anyone who wants to keep moving well for life.
He also emphasises that movement quality matters more than quantity. Doing more training isn’t always better, doing it smarter is. And that’s where many everyday exercisers go wrong: they push harder without paying attention to what their body is telling them.
